Here are the research works I have done in the past. I am aware that these still have things to improve on. I would like to continue these researches on my spare time.

Crime Activity Profiler in the National Capital Region of the Philippines Using Principal Component Analysis and Support Vector Machines

This research is about crime profiling in the said region. It aims to help a person decide if one wants to live in the National Capital Region, given the results presented in this paper. The period covered by the data used in this research is from January 2003 to June 2006. Crimes included in this research are: Index Crimes, Non-Index Crimes, Crime Against Person, Murder, Homicide, Rape, Physical Injury, Robbery, Crime Against Property, and Theft.

This research is only a prototype; I plan to improve on my Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm, as my SVM output on this project didn’t turn out correct. I also plan to extend this project so that it’ll be able to compare two cities on input. Initially, I was planning to do a crime profiling analysis on all the regions in the Philippines, but since we were given about two months or so to do this research, my professor suggested that I should limit my research to only one region in the Philippines.

Symbian Series 60 and Non-Series 60 J2ME Data Transfer Tool Using SyncML (with R. Ribaya)

This research aims to provide a single-interface solution of phone-to-phone data transfer of Personal Information Management - Contact List/Address Book, between two dissimilar phones. This is possible through:

(1) studying basic principles of data transfer between two phones via Bluetooth,

(2) locating available transfer technologies which is supported by most phones, and

(3) choosing the most viable technologies to work with both Series 60 and non-Series 60 phones to be able to transfer data between these phones.

I was supposed to do synchronization between Linux and a Nokia N70 phone, as I was having problems with synchronizing my phone stuff to my Linux PC (Yup, I own a Nokia N70). My adviser told me though that it’s too trivial, and suggested that I might want to do synchronization between two dissimilar phones. I agreed. Initially, this research was supposed to be about Synchronization, but on the defense day itself, one of our panelists asked this question: How do you define synchronization? So I gave out my thoughts on synchronization, and while I was answering her question, I realized that my partner and I missed out that important feature on our research. Yes, we were using a synchronization library (SyncML) to do our project, but we were not able to check if the contact information we are sending is already on the other phone we wish to synchronize contacts with. Oops. I already have fixed the code months ago, but I lost the code due to my harddisk failure back in January while I was in Indonesia for Asia Source II. I downloaded our thesis code just now from our online repository in school (Thank God for Moodle!), and plan to work on it again sometime.
